Overview of the Sports Business Sectors
The Sports business category relates to professional and amateur clubs, groups and recreational hobbies and activities that require physical movement and exertion by individuals or team players for entertainment or achievement purposes.
Sport is enjoyed by many people. Some have a natural ability for certain sports whilst some people may take up a sport for pure enjoyment and practise continually, never getting to a competition level but continue to participate for sheer enjoyment.
Sports such as American Football, Baseball, Basketball and Rodeo are very much American sports which are now enjoyed globally although Rodeo and the art of staying on a ‘bucking bronco’ or long-horned cow are primarily still very much an American pastime whereupon thousands of spectators turn up to see their favourite cowboy, or rodeo rider stay on his ride for as long as possible whilst the animal in question is bucking furiously in a bid to throw the rider off.
Equestrian is a term for any sporting or recreational event which relates to horses. It may be show-jumping, dressage, horse-racing or purely horse-riding for enjoyment and relaxation time. There are many equestrian centres that hold various classes throughout the week with a chance for children and adults to learn to ride and progress from simple walking and trotting through to cantering and galloping.
Winter sports such as Skiing, Skating and Snowboarding are considered winter sports although with certain global climates enjoying freezing conditions all year round, participators can enjoy them throughout the seasons. In terms of competition level sports, Football, Rugby and Soccer are played in the winter months of the year (from autumn onto early spring) whilst activities such as Tennis and Cricket are enjoyed during the summer months.
Water Sports such as Surfing and Water Skiing are both popular pastimes, and there are many beaches in Cornwall such as Fistral Beach in Newquay that have waves on-par with those in Australia, California and Hawaii and they regularly hold national surfing competitions there.
Tracks and Centres cater for many Outdoor and Indoor Sports such as Athletics, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Skateboarding, Martial Arts, Boxing and Racquet Sports such as badminton and squash. There are many clubs and organisations for people wishing to join, and they are held on various days and times throughout the week in order to accommodate as many people as possible who may work shift hours or are at school and college etc.
Personal Fitness centres are also popping up everywhere in a bid to encourage people to work out and exercise on a regular basis. This can be anything from Weight-training to Swimming, aerobics and dance classes.
Triathlon is an event in which participators have to compete in three different forms of sport; such as Swimming, Cycling and Running. All the events are timed, and it is the fastest participator overall who wins.
Golf is a game which people either love or hate, although when many play for the first time, they ‘get the bug’ and then obsess about it for evermore! As well as private and municipal golf courses, there are also numerous Driving Ranges both locally and nationally and these are a good idea to visit regularly in order to practise one’s swing and maybe book some lessons with the local golf ‘pro.
Darts has always been considered a ‘pub sport’, and at one time almost every pub in the country seemed to possess a darts board! However, it is a skilful game which requires huge concentration and focus to aim the darts to score the maximum 180 points with the three darts.
Hockey can be played in a leisure hall or outdoors and is a team game played by two teams who both try to obtain the ‘puck’ and shoot it into their opponents’ goal using their hockey stick. It falls under the category of Team Sports as does Cricket, Football, Soccer, Rugby, Volleyball and Basketball to name but a few. Different sports have varying numbers of players in their teams and it is important that the team play together as a team and not just one individual who is determined to outshine the others in a bid to gain recognition!
Physiotherapists and Sports Therapy Specialists can be contacted should you have a sporting injury that needs attention or a massage to loosen your overworked muscles. They can be sourced via an online business directory such as thebusinessindex.com and this will show listings of reputable specialists as well as locations, reviews and contact details.
The same applies for Sporting Goods and anyone wishing to find a local stockist of a particular sports item for equipment.
